Results of the first excavation season at Glac presented at Bonnyrigg Sports Club

On the 26th of September 2017, members of the Glac project were back at Bonnyrigg Sports Club. This time they returned to talk about their impressions and finds following the first season of excavation. Apart from the talk about the successful scientific collaboration that was established between the Australian and Serbian teams, the audience was able to hear about the development of a wonderful friendship between the two teams and the local community.

The presenters included Dr Alan Dearn, Subject Master of History at Sydney Grammar School, giving the historical background of the Glac site, University of Sydney student, Serbian-born Jelena Šarović, sharing her experience in her native country as the youngest member of the dig and Professor Richard Miles, Project Co-Director and Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Sydney talking about the results of the first excavation season and future plans.

It is always a pleasure to speak to the Serbian community and honourable guests, including the Serbian Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency, Mr Miroljub Petrović, Consul Branislav Grbić and Father Rade Radan. We are extremely grateful to Mr Stevan Šipka, Vice President of Asia Pacific Air Serbia, master of ceremonies, Aleks Glumac and the whole team at Bonnyrigg Sports Club for their warm hospitality and organisation of the event. Our gratitude goes to Etihad Airways, Air Serbia, the University of Sydney and Sydney Grammar School, as well as our partners in Serbia for their continuous dedication and support of the project!
